Advancing Sustainable Innovation Through Cross-Cluster Cooperation

During Day 2 (27.11.2025) of Clusters Meet Regions Regensburg, Cross-Session III focused on the intersection of green technologies and artificial intelligence and highlighted how coordinated cluster cooperation can accelerate sustainable innovation in the region. The session brought together Katja Eichinger (AIR Artificial Intelligence Regensburg), Nicole Höß (OTH Regensburg), Quirin Schneider (Pendura), and Oliver Kotzulla (Green Tech Cluster Regensburg / Energieagentur Regensburg) to present current developments and practical examples from the regional ecosystem.

The discussion emphasised the strategic partnership between the Green Tech Cluster Regensburg and AIR Artificial Intelligence Regensburg, illustrating how synergies between energy transition, climate protection, and AI-driven technologies create new opportunities for smart mobility, sustainable infrastructure, and resource-efficient solutions. Both clusters showcased how cross-innovation approaches can strengthen resilience, support decarbonisation, and foster long-term competitiveness for companies and public institutions.

Regional use cases provided concrete insights into ongoing developments. The start-up Pendura presented its work on sustainable product solutions and AI-supported applications, while the Regensburg Center for Artificial Intelligence (OTH Regensburg) highlighted current research projects demonstrating how applied AI can improve efficiency and enable new green innovations. Together, these examples underlined how academia, start-ups, and established actors jointly contribute to the region’s innovation agenda.

Within the broader context of Clusters Meet Regions, the session reinforced the importance of collaboration across sectors and administrative levels. By connecting cluster organisations, businesses, research institutions, and policymakers, the event offers a platform to exchange expertise and align strategies for sustainable and competitive regional innovation ecosystems.

Cross-Session III demonstrated that the combination of GreenTech and AI in Regensburg is not only technologically relevant but also strategically anchored in regional cooperation structures—positioning the city as an active contributor to Europe’s green and digital transformation.
