With great interest from visitors, numerous sold-out events, and a diverse program, Regensburg’s first citywide AI Day came to a successful close. Around 2,000 visitors took the opportunity to explore the full spectrum of artificial intelligence—from practical applications for businesses to the latest research and interactive activities for the general public. A total of around 80 program events were offered at eleven locations.
At TechBase Regensburg, Degginger, OTH Regensburg, the University of Regensburg, and other venues, companies, startups, universities, and institutions presented innovative AI solutions and current research projects. Workshops, lectures, exhibitions, and live demonstrations highlighted how artificial intelligence is already shaping our daily lives, the economy, education, healthcare, and mobility.
Among the crowd favorites were interactive demonstrations featuring robotics and virtual reality applications, insights into current AI research, and panel discussions on societal issues surrounding the use of AI. This not only conveyed technological knowledge but also fostered dialogue about the opportunities, challenges, and responsibilities involved in dealing with this new technology.
Uwe Pfeil, cluster manager at AIR Artificial Intelligence Regensburg, offered a positive assessment: “We’ve seen just how great the curiosity about artificial intelligence is. Many people come with questions, and some also with reservations. In the end, they go home with concrete examples, new insights, and often a certain sense of enthusiasm. This is exactly the kind of exchange we wanted to facilitate. AI Day has shown that Regensburg isn’t just talking about AI—it’s actively shaping it.”
Alexander Rupprecht, managing director of TechBase Regensburg, was also thrilled by the response: “What makes me particularly happy is the diversity of the participants. Universities, companies, startups, cultural professionals, and public institutions have come together to demonstrate just how strong our AI network has become. AI Day brought together people who might otherwise never have met. This gives rise to new ideas, collaborations, and innovations for the future.”
AI Day has sent a strong signal about Regensburg as a hub for innovation. The organizers, led by the AIR Artificial Intelligence Regensburg cluster, view this successful debut as an important step toward making artificial intelligence understandable, accessible, and tangible to society, and toward further strengthening the dialogue between academia, industry, and the public.
