On December 3, 2025, the EU Clusters Talk titled “Technologies of the Future: AI, Quantum, and Beyond” took place. Organized by the European Cluster Collaboration Platform (ECCP), the webinar highlighted the EU’s strategic approach to strengthening its technological sovereignty and competitiveness in the fields of artificial intelligence and quantum technologies.
During the panel discussion, representatives from innovation clusters in Germany, Denmark, Finland, and Spain discussed how clusters can specifically support technology transfer in companies—particularly SMEs—as well as what is planned at the EU level and where further action is needed. Katja Eichinger from the Cluster AIR Artificial Intelligence Regensburg presented, among other things, the Regensburg AI License and the new Quantum Impulse working group.
Among other topics, the discussion focused on obstacles to scaling up pilot projects to an industrial level, as well as requirements for a high-performance European infrastructure. Finally, the discussion turned to the question of how future technologies can be reconciled with sustainability goals. While training and deploying large AI models requires significant energy, there is also potential for energy and resource savings—for example, through AI-driven optimizations in production and logistics, predictive maintenance, or simulations.
