The second meeting of the “AI in Transportation Logistics” working group, held on July 23, 2026, at TechBase Regensburg, once again focused on the practical application of artificial intelligence in transportation logistics.
After the opening remarks, the working group’s objectives and its new leadership were presented. Andreas Weinhut (Geschäftsführer WEINHUT GmbH), Prof. Dr. Christian Dach (OTH Regensburg), and Robert Praschl (1. Vorsitzender der Logistikinitiative Regensburg e.V.) contribute their professional expertise from both industry and academia. The working group is coordinated by Uwe Pfeil and Katja Eichinger on behalf of the Mobility & Logistics Cluster and AIR.
The focus is on fostering exchange between businesses, academia, and research institutions to create a platform for knowledge transfer, networking, and the development of joint projects.
The technical highlight of the meeting was a presentation by Jürgen Sakry (Department Head of Shared Services, Corporate Digital Innovation & Development, DACHSER SE) on the topic “Artificial Intelligence—Potential, Use Cases, and Limitations in Logistics.” Using concrete real-world examples, he demonstrated how AI is already being used today in areas such as forecasting, data quality, intelligent assistance systems, automation, and smart warehouses. In addition, he provided an overview of the development of artificial intelligence and addressed not only the opportunities but also relevant requirements such as change management and clear lines of responsibility.
The subsequent Q&A session and networking provided participants with an opportunity to discuss the approaches presented and share their own experiences.
