The second AIR.CON—Regensburg’s AI conference—brought together around 200 participants from the business, academic, education, healthcare, and startup sectors at TechBase Regensburg today. Organized by the AIR Artificial Intelligence Regensburg cluster, the event provided a platform for discussion on current developments, innovative applications, and societal challenges related to artificial intelligence.
The conference was opened by Dr. Thomas Burger, Mayor of Regensburg, and Alexander Rupprecht, Managing Director of TechBase Regensburg GmbH. A video message from Tobias Gotthardt, State Secretary at the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy, underscored the importance of artificial intelligence as a key driver of innovation and competitiveness for Bavaria and Germany.
A highlight of the morning was the panel discussion titled “Trustworthy AI: Between Innovation, the EU AI Act, and Digital Sovereignty.” During the discussion, the experts explored the balance between technological progress, regulatory requirements, and the responsible use of AI. The panel included Prof. Dr. Udo Kruschwitz from the University of Regensburg, Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Mauerer from OTH Regensburg, Nadine Stockinger from the BMW Group, and Christian Volkmer from Projekt 29 GmbH & Co. KG.
“The strong response shows that artificial intelligence has long since found its way into companies, research institutions, and public institutions in the region. AIR.CON brings together the relevant stakeholders and creates opportunities for knowledge transfer, innovation, and collaboration,” said Uwe Pfeil, cluster manager of AIR Artificial Intelligence Regensburg.
In the afternoon, four topic-specific forums explored key issues surrounding the practical application of AI. The program ranged from AI-based solutions for small and medium-sized businesses and current developments in the healthcare sector to the use of AI in K-12 and higher education, as well as industrial and energy sector applications. Startups, companies, and research institutions presented specific projects and real-world experiences.
The conference was accompanied by a trade show and a variety of networking opportunities. The approximately 200 guests took the opportunity to make new contacts, explore potential collaborations, and exchange ideas on current technology trends. In doing so, AIR.CON once again underscored its role as a central networking platform for the AI ecosystem in Eastern Bavaria.
