The Regensburg-based AI network AIR (Artificial Intelligence Regensburg) will be officially admitted to the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy’s Excellence Program on June 5, 2025, as part of the go-cluster conference. AIR is thus the first and, to date, only AI cluster in Germany to receive this distinction—an important milestone for strengthening artificial intelligence in the region.
AIR’s inclusion in the Excellence Program represents nationwide recognition of its high quality and strategic focus. The cluster, which is managed by TechBase Regensburg GmbH, brings together companies, research institutions, and public sector stakeholders from Regensburg and the surrounding region to drive practical AI innovations and ensure sustainable value creation in the region. The cluster currently has 39 members.
“Membership in the go-cluster network sends a strong signal about Regensburg’s innovative strength,” said Uwe Pfeil, cluster manager at AIR. “It not only confirms our strategic direction but also opens up new opportunities for networking and further development—both at the national level and in the European context.”
AIR stands for Artificial Intelligence Regensburg and was founded in 2020 by the City of Regensburg as an interdisciplinary platform for the application, testing, and scaling of AI solutions. In 2024, management of the cluster was transferred to the city’s subsidiary, TechBase Regensburg GmbH. With its inclusion in the program, AIR is now one of Germany’s most high-performing innovation clusters.
